Ellen Wallace, RN, Souhegan Home & Hospice Care, was recently re-certified as a Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (C.R.R.N.) by the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. C.R.R.N. designation reflects Ms. Wallace’s demonstrated expertise in the area of Rehabilitation Nursing - a specialty practice area within the scope of nursing involving the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to health problems resulting from altered functional ability and/or altered lifestyle.
Rehabilitation Nurses take a holistic approach to meeting patients’ medical, vocational, educational, environmental, and spiritual needs. Rehabilitation nursing is a philosophy of care based on managing complex medical issues; collaborating with other specialists; providing ongoing patient/caregiver education; setting goals for maximal independence; and establishing plans of care to maintain optimal wellness.
Ms. Wallace was first certified as a Rehabilitation Registered Nurse in 1993 when she was a rehab nurse at St. Joseph Hospital. Since joining Souhegan Home & Hospice Care in 2002, the nature of her work has certainly changed, but her specialized training continues to serve her well. “Rehabilitation nurses are trained to help individuals with a chronic illness or physical disability to adapt to their disability while achieving their greatest potential,” Ms, Wallace says. “Many of those patients end up needing home care, and my training enables me to develop an individualized in-home program for them that’s focused on working toward a productive, independent life.”
Ms. Wallace, a resident of Tyngsboro, MA, received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital/Rivier College in Nashua, NH in 1991. She first joined St. Joseph Healthcare in 1991.
